The Hudson
Community Foundation
What is Hudson Community Foundation?
- HCF is a registered non-profit 501 [c][3] founded in 2001, with a Board of Trustees made up of your friends and neighbors.
What is the purpose of HCF?
- HCF is a vehicle for facilitating the philanthropy of Hudson citizens. It's long run objective is to direct charitable contributions to the benefit of this community.
How does HCF achieve this?
- The primary means of philanthropy employed by HCF is the "donor advised" fund, which is managed by the Board according to the wishes of the donor.
What is a Donor Advised Fund and how does it Work?
- You can establish your fund [with a minimum contribution $10 thousand] simply by completing a short form.
- You recommend how the funds are to be invested and who will be involved in that process.
- You recommend grants [$250 minimum] to your favorite public charities whenever you wish
- You recommend who will succeed you as ‘successor advisor’
- HCF collects a 1% fee [more than offset by tax benefits] and handles all fiduciary oversight, record keeping and tax reporting
What are the benefits?
- Set up is simple
- Immediate income tax deduction
- Avoidance of capital gains on contributions of appreciated securities
- Avoidance of estate taxes
- Ability to contribute a wide range of assets
