Habitat Scores With a Big Home Run

Hudson Community Foundation, with a grant of $1,000, takes on the title of “General Contractor Sponsor” for this year’s Habitat for Humanity Home Run. Hudson Habitat, in partnership with Vince Rucci, owner of downtown’s Vertical Runner, is preparing this run to celebrate the strong community support for the Habitat program over the last 15 years and to raise funds for building the Habitat House. The result is The Home Run, an event for running five miles or, for a family, to walk one mile.

Hoping to raise as much as $6,000 for building house number 15 this year, event volunteers Ken Blower and Belinda Wing are enthusiastic not only about the race, but also the dwelling which will be given to a family in need.

Over 300 athletes and wannabes are expected to turn out to run or walk to get needed funds into the hands of Habitat’s group of volunteer builders.

This year’s house will bring to 15 the number of houses built by Hudson community members since 1991, as they emulate the efforts of Volunteer Number One, former president Jimmy Carter. Hudson Habitat has built over 10% of the Habitat houses built in Summit County.

So watch for the fun, or get into the action yourself, at the First and Main Green on Saturday, September 3 at 9:00 am sharp. Hudson Community Foundation, long a believer in networking with other volunteer organizations, sees the Home Run as a Hudson community event promoting physical fitness, volunteering and providing decent housing for the less fortunate. We’ll be there; will you?
